Brian's Christmas Present (with Framebridge!)

Wednesday, December 7, 2016

Brian and I decided not to give each other Christmas presents this year. At least, nothing to open on Christmas Day. Between buying each other an apartment (bye, savings!) and all of the wedding gifts we received from family and friends in 2016, we feel beyond fulfilled and spoiled rotten. We've also got a 2017 travel list we're anxious to kick into gear, so we figured we'd save the cash and book a trip a trip to New Orleans, Charleston or LA in the New Year instead. So, no gifts.

But I love gift giving so much, I couldn't resist doing something, and since we're still dealing with what feels like a million boxes, bare walls and no furniture, I felt something towards our new place wouldn't really be breaking the rules at all.

Still, I was stumped on what to get and really wanted it to be personal — Brian's not the type to swoon over an accent chair (his wife is). Then one night, Brian was telling me how much he loves our friend James' work, how his photos for National Geographic give him an ever bigger itch to travel. The next day I got in touch with James (who recently left us in shivery Chicago for sunny LA), asking if he'd mind if I framed one of his pieces for our new place. With James excited and on board, I worked with Framebridge to make the perfect frame, the perfect present.

I spent hours perusing James' work and then uploaded a favorite from the Australian Outback (it feels like such a calming image to me) to Framebridge's site. From there I picked the right frame (I went back and forth between two a dozen times), matting, and had the piece on my doorstep by the end of the week. The process couldn't have been smoother, and the frame looks so elegant. I was so excited to show Brian, I gave it to him instantly. Whoops. Hey, we said no gifts on Christmas Day! He absolutely loved it, and it's so cool to have a piece by a dear friend (who we miss so much!) be a focus of our living room.

If you're looking to have any art framed, I cannot recommend Framebridge enough. Their online framing system is super easy, with a crazy amount of options to bring any idea you have to life. It makes custom framing way less intimidating and more accessible by leaving all of the options up to you, in the comfort of your own home (for a fraction of the cost of custom framing shops). And, it's the perfect gift.

P.S. Framebridge is offering readers 15% off with code makethemost15. Offer ends 2/28/2017. And be sure to get your orders in by 12/18 to have them by Christmas! Happy shopping!
