Weekend Reunion in Chicago

Helllloooo!!! I can't believe the holidays snuck up so quickly, but it's happening! And with the Hipster Holidays Pandora station on repeat, I'm ready for all of it. We're heading to the suburbs for almost a weeeeeek tonight, and I'm so exited to spend some time with my family (in 60-degree Chicago weather!!!).

Last weekend a few of my best girlfriends came to the city for a little three-day staycation, and we had the best time catching up and getting in the holiday spirit even though we were freezing and it felt like every festive activity was outdoors.

Our first stop was Chriskindlmarket for hot chocolate and warm stuffed pretzels, which I think is the reason to go to the market and makes battling the crowds worth it every time. My old coworkers introduced me to the pretzels a few years ago, and we've made going to get one a winter Friday tradition even though a few of us have moved to different companies. The spinach and feta is my go-to, but the cheesecake and pizza are also amaaaaazing. Also, the pumpkin. You really can't go wrong.

Here we are in the Quartino bathroom after lunch, casually putting feet warmers on our frozen toes before heading back out.

The best (worst?) part of being best friends for 15 years is that our awkward middle school stage still comes out every so often, so we stand in line with little kids for a photo like this without feeling even a little embarrassed.

After a week of being sick, feeling overwhelmed and not at all in the holiday spirit, this little break is exactly what I needed. We missed our girl Christel, who now lives in Germany, and I can't wait for the next time the six of us are together. I've said this so many times, but good girlfriends are just so good. The older I'm getting, I'm realizing just how important it is to cherish these dear friendships and also make a point to be the best kind of friend I can be. I think we are all so lucky to have great people in our lives near and far and we should all take a moment to tell them how much they mean to us.

And with that, HOLIDAY TIME. Have a great Christmas!!!!!!!
