Apple Picking!

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Over the weekend we went apple picking with some friends. It's by far my favorite fall activity, and Saturday was the perfect day for it. We went to Kuipers Family Farm, picked some apples (ate as many as we picked), walked through the beautiful orchard and had a little picnic. It was a great start to a dreary week; the weather has been terrible since. Sometimes I tell myself I'm glad I'm keeping this blog, it'll be a good diary to look back at in years to come. Then I realize it's really just a weekly weather report. So, future self, Saturday was nice, Sunday was so-so, Monday and Tuesday were awful. And you forgot your rain boots both days.

Now we have lots of apples and few ideas what to do with them. Any recommendations? I think I'm going to try cooking them with oatmeal in a crockpot, and I want to try my hand at a pie, but I've always been intimidated by the idea of making one. That and Cornish hens I don't think I can even try.

Last, to make this a diary-worthy post, a photo of Brian and me from a few years ago (when I was too shy to tell him to get a haircut and we were into matching outfits), on our first vacation together, which included my first apple picking trip. These kids look like babies ;-)

Did you go apple picking this year? What are your favorite fall activities? I'd love to hear!
