Run a Race

Thursday, May 1, 2014

Last Sunday a few friends and I crossed another goal off my list and ran a 5K together. It was such a nice, little neighborhood run, and it was also, embarrassingly, my first time running that far. In late January I started the C25K program again, and while I never quite finished it (got to the very last day, though!), it definitely helped me prepare. My goal was to run the entire race, regardless of my pace, and not stop and walk. Mission accomplished ;-)

^^ We had some of the best, most serious supporters cheering us on. And about a mile into the race we saw Mayor Rahm Emanuel! He was just chilling on the sidewalk with his coffee in his hand and newspaper under his armpit, encouraging runners to keep going. Should have snapped a selfie.

After the race we celebrated our victories with a delicious brunch at Marmalade! Eggs Benedict never tasted so good.

Hopefully, if I keep up with it, running three miles won't seem as big of an accomplishment. But for now, it is, and I'm glad I pushed myself to do it. It's amazing how we can train and discipline ourselves and how quickly our bodies transform as a result. I'm thankful for this sluggish body of mine and that it can be kicked into gear once in a very blue moon.

  1. Congrats on the 5K! That would be an accomplishment for me too. And your Rahm Emanuel story is the BEST! Haha!
