We're Going to Italy!

Friday, December 6, 2013

Earlier this year I stumbled across a blog post somewhere of a family sharing their photos from a vacation to Positano, Italy. I was mesmerized. I spent the rest of the afternoon researching the village and sending emails to Brian's work address telling him we had to find a way to get there. He agreed (how could he not?), and Positano quickly became a state of mind for us. Must get up for work to one day retire in Positano. Can't buy that dress, must save for Positano. Must budget time off leaving room for Positano. We were obsessed but not hopeful about going anytime soon.

Still, we looked up how to get there, but became even more discouraged. It's about five-six hours from Rome (including a handful of buses and trains), and flying into Naples, which is closer, was out of our budget. But a few weeks ago the stars aligned, and we found decent tickets to Rome, and we booked them! We booked them! We're going to Positano, Capri and Rome in May, and we can't wait.

To celebrate, we went to Positano's Pizza in Chicago on Wednesday. We drove more than 30 minutes to Midway airport for it, and in a city where you can find pizza on every block, that's a little ridiculous. But it kept showing up in our searches as we began to stalk Positano, and we wanted to see what the fuss was about. No fuss. Great pizza.

So, that's that. We're going, and we'd love any advice on the three cities! We're feeling extremely lucky and thankful. And it's only December, but we can't wait. See ya in 168 days, Italy.

  1. Wow! Congrats! That sounds very exciting for the two of you! Cant wait to see the pictures!
