Happy Birthday, Armin!

Wednesday, September 11, 2013

It has been more than eight years since my brother, sister and I lived at my parents' house together, and thinking about it always upsets me. Some of my fondest memories from growing up are of the lazy summer days my sister and I spent together, the pranks we'd pull on our parents (dad's shoes in the freezer, a winner) and the weekend sleepovers we'd have in each other's rooms. My little brother didn't get as much of that. I went to college when he was six, and now it's just him and my parents, and I'm always worried he's missing out.

But while I worry, this kid is living his life to the fullest. He's so smart, so carefree and so kind to everyone around him. He assures me he loves his setup — he doesn't have to fight for parents' attention and gets to visit my sister and I in our respective cities often (where, he acknowledges, he's spoiled rotten). I can't believe he's a teenager, and neither can my friends that have known him since he was born. He'll always be my and Shabz's little, annoying brother, but he has matured into one of our best friends, and I love watching him grow up.

Because I'll be out of town this weekend, we celebrated his birthday last weekend. My sister and I surprised him and came home, and we all went to his favorite restaurant for lunch on Saturday.

While we're discussing siblings growing up too fast... when did this one get old enough to legally drink?

Happy birthday, Armin! We love you!
