A Night at Nightwood

I do this really annoying thing where I always check the menu a few hours before going to a restaurant. I'm not a picky eater, it's not that. I really don't know what it is, other than supererogatory preparedness, but it's an irritating habit.

A few weeks ago Brian made reservations for dinner and wouldn't tell me the location. The anxiety was killing me and annoying him, so he finally told me it was at Nightwood, but it didn't matter.

Nightwood is a farm-to-table restaurant. The menu is handwritten (and changes) daily and inspired by seasonal, local ingredients. It's tucked away in Pilsen, Chicago's lower west side neighborhood (which makes it a hike for those of us up north), but worth the journey. We had the nicest time on the patio and wonderful service. Our waitress brought us complimentary dessert wine, and when I raved about it, she brought me another kind (Cocchi Aperetivo Americano), which might be my new favorite drink. We loved it all so much we bought an extra dessert to take home for the next day. Seriously, this Monday can't be beat.
